The Dodgers went shopping and picked up second baseman Orlando Hudson from the rival Diamondbacks for $3.38MM. Wow what a deal, this guy was a huge contributor to the D’Backs and many times was a thorn in the Dodgers side last season. Also this addition I would argue makes the Dodgers middle infield the best in baseball next season with Furcal at shortstop. I’m personally going to love seeing the double plays those two are going to turn.
Blake DeWitt will have to really work hard at Spring Training if he still wants to find a spot in the infield. Right now the Dodgers are saying that DeWitt could possibly move over to third and Casey Blake can move to left field. I like Blake DeWitt at third, he just looked more comfortable at that position last year. Even though he’s a youngster I think he has more range at third than Casey Blake.
The next big signing I’m waiting for is Manny, I think this one will be developing very soon. If that happens DeWitt will most likely become a utility infielder or maybe even drop back down to Triple A. That would be a shame because I would like to see him develop even more this year, but the Dodgers were smart not to pass on signing Hudson. Welcome to L.A. Orlando Hudson, I can’t wait to see what you can do for the team.
Quick poll question for everyone, who will lead off for the Dodgers in 2009 now that they have signed Hudson? Answer below.
