Gear Up For Dodgers Baseball

So far, So Good

Dodgers v Padres Exhibition Series Day 2

Last week, I was one of thousands of Dodgers fans that made the trek down the coast for Opening Day at PetCo Park.

And, let me tell you, Dodgers fans completely took over San Diego. We even helped set a new attendance record at PetCo.

Of course, Dodgers and Padres fans made a few verbal jabs at each other, usually followed by laughter.

Padres fan: “Hey, you’re not in L.A. anymore!”
Dodgers fan: “Eh, San Diego is just another suburb of Los Angeles.”

Padres fan: “Hey, you guys don’t belong here!”
Dodgers fan: “You should be glad. We’re here to stimulate your economy.”

When Jonathan Broxton came in for the save, several Dodgers fans in the crowd were crossing their fingers and praying that he wouldn’t blow it.

But, as a Padres fan mumbled while smilingly sheepishly, “Eh, we’re the Padres. You have nothing to worry about.”

But those Padres were kind of feisty, weren’t they?

Maybe the Pads aren’t so bad after all.

Well, that’s enough science-fiction for today.

Now, we’re a week into the season and the Dodgers seem to be finally getting into the groove of things after taking two of three from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

As I write this, the Dodgers are smashing the hated San Francisco Giants on Dodger Stadium Opening Day. Chad Billingsley is dominating the Giants (not much of a feat, but you gotta win these games); and everybody in the lineup is contributing to the cause. Oh yeah, Orlando Hudson just beat a throw from right field for a triple, hitting for the cycle (only other player in Dodgers history to do it at Dodger Stadium was Wes Parker in 1970).

O-Dog is looking like a terrific pick-up for the Dodgers.

With the Dodgers’ strong lineup, just about everyone, in addition to Dodgers fans, will be expecting these type of results from the team this season.

So far, Billingsley, Clayton Kershaw and Hiroki Kuroda have performed well. And, although the bullpen had a few hiccups last week, Broxton (so far) has been stellar in save opportunities (keep your fingers crossed).

But, then again, we’re only a week in.

The great thing, though (and most Dodgers fans will agree with me) is that there is this excitement in the air. While a lot of this has to do with Manny Ramirez, the rest of the guys on the squad are solid and this has Dodgers fans already clamoring for–hold on…Andre Ethier just went yard, Dodgers up 11-1, now–October baseball.

So far, so good.

Go Blue!

Edgard, you make some very important points. I hope they keep playing this way, I want to see them go all the way. I'm also really sad that they got rid of Garciaparra.
