MLB: San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers

With regular season in full swing, I decided to compare statistics to see if how well we’ve been doing recently compares to the remaining teams in the league. While reviewing the League Leaders, a Dodger was in every category. Manny Ramirez has the 5th highest batting average in the league (.349) and the 7th highest slugging average (.614). Despite these numbers, I haven’t been too impressed with him lately. Manny missed 2 consecutive Sunday games due to his “hamstring”, the same hamstring that kept him out of a good amount of pre-season games. If you know you can’t play, you should probably rest until it has fully healed, rather than trying to jump back into it too hastily. Joe Torre warned Manny about this particular subject during pre-season, but his cautionary statements obviously went unheeded. Casey Blake is in 13th place for homers with 5, while Andre Ethier is in 5th for RBIs with 24; some solid hitting statistics for players that happen to NOT be Manny Ramirez. Matt Kemp is also under 2 categories; he is currently in a 3-way tie for most triples (3) with Michael Bourn of the Astros and Shane Victorino of the Phillies, as well as, in 6th place for most stolen bases which his personal stat totals 5. Orlando Hudson has a prominent seat in 3 sections: 3rd place in runs, 1st in hits, and 7th in doubles. Not to be snobby or anything but, HELL YEAH! That is an excellent way to begin a brand new season, don’t you agree?

The Dodgers, as a team, delved into the record books at home this week-end with their 10th consecutive win, leaving them undefeated at Dodgers’ stadium (déjà vu for Joe Torre who led the 1983 Braves to the same feat that qualified for a National League record). Their 10th win broke a previous club record set by the 1946 Brooklyn Dodgers (who went 9-0 at home). Chad Billingsley aided the win by only allowing a handful of hits, and a few runs, bringing his record to 5-0 (a National League Best as well). On top of our aforementioned successes, the Dodgers also hold the best record in the MLB right now with 18 wins and 8 losses. The Cardinals hold 2nd with 17 wins and 8 losses. The next 7 games will all be at home for the Dodgers and tonight they face off against the Arizona D-backs. Hopefully we can add some more tallies to our win column and keep the Cardinals at bay.
