What’s done is done.
Manny is out for 50 games and right now it looks like there’s nothing we can do about it.
It’s time for Dodger fans and players alike to hold our heads up high and press on, and try to continue the great start that the team is off to.
There’s no reason to think that the Dodgers can’t keep winning. Manny is great, but he’s just one player. The Dodgers lineup is stacked with big bats and young talent.
Last night’s game against the Nationals was very telling. Yes, it was a loss, but we can take a lot of good things from it.
The Manny-less offense still managed to put up nine runs, six of them in the first inning, and continued to battle even when it was down. The only reason it was down at all was because of yet another bullpen breakdown, and we saw a couple of those while Manny was still around.
Let’s take Manny’s involuntary $7 million donation to the “Derek Lowe Memorial We Need a Pitcher Fund,” and use it to really beef up the starting rotation.
The Dodgers have always been the team with the lackluster offense and great pitching. With one more solid pitcher (and maybe a fresh arm in the bullpen), we can be the team with the good offense and the great pitching.
Whatever happens, it’s time to see what this team is really made of.
It’s time to see if Andre Ethier can keep it up.
It’s time to see if Matt Kemp can start to get it done.
It’s time to see if Orlando Hudson can hit without Manny behind him.
It’s time to see if Russel Martin can be the All-Star we know he is.
It’s time to see if Juan Pierre remembers how to play everyday.
It’s time to see what Xavier Paul is really made of.
And most of all, it’s time to see if Mannywood will survive until July.
